The importance of quality sleep!
Why is sleep so important? Sleep plays such an important in our health and our well-being. I for one am an “early to bed, early to rise” kind of gal. I know that when I don’t have a good sleep, I often feel cranky, moody, and my cravings swing all over the place.
I feel like society has glorified being tired! You’re not important unless you’re running on three hours of sleep, stressed out, overworked, and on your fourth cup of coffee. Does this sound familiar? We’ve put being stressed out and exhausted up on a pedestal.
Look at new parents! Everyone has an opinion about parenting, whether asked for or not. Sleep when baby sleeps. But that’s the only time you should do laundry? Clean? Shower? Oh but dinner needs to be on the table by a certain time, and haven’t you shaved? You know you really should sleep when baby sleeps … I don’t even have kids but I know for certain that sleep goes out the window when you do.
Anyway I’m getting a little off topic here. The agenda for today is a little bit about the importance of sleep. Sleeping is when our body has a chance to rest and repair. The quality of your sleep really does mirror the quality of your life.
Physically, adequate sleep repairs your body from injury, illness; even maintenance of your vital organs and vessels. Chronic fatigue has been shown to have an effect on your heart (increases your risk of heart disease) as well as your kidneys. Studies have shown that sleep deficiencies are also linked to an increase in obesity, for the role that sleep has on your hormones like Ghrelin, Leptin, and Insulin (source)! Quality sleep keeps your hormones regulating properly, keeping you satiated and balanced. When you’re sleepy, you’re hungrier, causing you to eat more (and you’re probably not in the state of mind to pick kale over cake). Because this is a time for your body to repair itself, it also keeps your physical body in check. Repairing muscles, injuries, or supporting your body’s natural functions like detoxing or fighting infection, chronic fatigue can lead to pain, injuries, or weakened immune systems.
Mentally/Emotionally, sleep keeps your brain happy. And what’s your brains job? Oh just about everything. (There is a simple daily routine that you can do to help keep your brain balanced, for more info click here!) Adequate sleep helps with memory retention, learning, attention, problem solving, and decision-making. Chronic sleep deficiency can actually alter your brain (source) making your mood spin around like the Wheel of Fortune. Coping with everyday stress and change all become unbearable when you’re dealing with a lack of sleep.
Spiritually, sleep is when we do some of our best work. The meridians all have their time when their Qi is at it’s highest and lowest (that’s a blog for another day!) It’s also when our spirit has free reign to work out issues, deal with stress, communicate, and do it’s spiritual thing (AKA… DREAMING!) Sometimes, if your dreams are getting to be a little too much, or you’re experiencing some negative side effects from your wild spirit, send me a message, we can definitely chat about that.
So, all of this, and all you have to do is catch a few more ZZZ’s? Sounds doable, however, when do humans ever make anything easy for themselves? Here are a few tricks to a solid sleep from yours truly.
Wishing everyone a sound sleep going forward, until next time!
...and more about Vision Boards!
This weekend I hosted a Vision Board Workshop, where I had a group of wonderful people turn their thoughts into pictures and words, and with the group meditation we did I'm sure that those pictures and words will soon become a reality. It was such a success, that I wanted to share some of the insights with all of you! I've posted tons about manifestation, dream boards, and goal setting, but it's something that I'm so passionate about!
Has anyone heard of the Law of Attraction? or "The Secret"? So, I've personally never read the book. I've heard lots about it though. And after much research, and points that I've learned in various courses, I've decided, I like the idea, but there is a crucial part missing... Are your subconscious and your conscious beliefs lining up? Hey I'll be the first to admit I never really thought of this until recently. Positive thinking alone won't get you the things that you desire most. I can sit here all I want dreaming about my future car, how I would feel driving in it, what it would look like, etc. BUT, what are my underlying belief systems about material goods like a car, money, driving? An example I would like to use is actually a personal one...
I had made a vision board about my career a long time ago. It had pictures of BodyTalk, Personal Training, an office, a healing centre, and lots of happy people smiling. Awesome! That's a great start. But it wasn't until I was not seeing the results that I wanted, that I looked in to it deeper. Sure people were asking me about what I did, but most people brushed it off. Or worse, people would be rude about it. I found myself apologizing for what I do (???). Why the HELL would I apologize for what I do?! I HELP PEOPLE!!!
So... let's fast forward to a BodyTalk session I had for myself. It came up under Belief Systems "I am not worthy of success". Umm pardon me? I've been doing everything in my conscious power to be able to spread my truth and help people overcome their health issues, and you're going to tell me that I subconsciously believe I'm not worthy of success? Once my practitioner and I talked about the underlying belief system, and how it was reeking havoc on my manifestation, things started to shift.
So, to sum up, if your conscious and subconscious beliefs are not lining up, you can think positively all you want, but the universe isn't going to deliver. That's the cool thing about BodyTalk, your body will do just that, it will talk about all the things that you may not even be aware of in your conscious mind.
Can you see how this can effect your relationships? Your careers? Even your health?!? I had a client once who subconsciously believe they weren't worthy of being healthy. So this person tried everything in their power to overcome health issues, disease, pain, etc, but their two consciousness's didn't line up.
COOL, RIGHT? Anyway! As always, if you want to chat more, send me a message or comment below. Happy Manifesting!
(P.S. I should mention, life isn't going to fall in to your lap. Hustle, People!)
